The Clinical Effects of Econoazole Nitrate Vaginal Suppository for Candidal Vaginitis


Abstract
Author studied the effectiveness of Econazole Nitrate vaginal suppository 50 mg against candidal vaginitis.
From Nov. ¢¥76 to Jan. ¢¥77, wet smear and culture for Candida albicans using Nickerson¢¥s medium were carried out to the patients who visited our department with complaints of leukorrhea and vulvar itching.
Positive cases for any one, test of two-total 43 cases were administered Econazole Nitrate aginal suppository 50 mg i tablet per day for successing 15days.
Decision of cure was made by both negative findings for wet smear and culture 1 week after the last dose.
The results reveal as follow:
Candidal vaginitis is the most frequent in 21-30 yrs old women by the rate of 26 cases(60. 5 %) among 43 cases.
Pregnant patients are 23 cases(53. 5%) and non-pregnant patients, 20 cases(46. 5%).
Mean gestational months in pregnant patients are 6.7 months. 5cases(25%) among 20 eases of non-pregnant patients are administered oral contraceptives.
The subjective symptoms are much improved, prior to therapy, vaginal burning-32 cases(74.2 %), pruritus-34cases(79.1%) and leukorrhea-41 cases(95.3%) but 1 week after the end of therapy, vaginal burning-2cases(4. 7%), pruritus-3 cases(?%), leukorrhea-12 cases(27. 9%).
A combination of wet smear and culture is helpful for accurate diagnosis. The cure rate is 41 cases(95.3%) among 43 cases. No significant side effect is found.
